About the Airport Charles de Gaulle

Charles de Gaulle Airport is located about 30 km northeast of Paris, and as Europe’s second-largest airport, it can feel a little intimidating at first glance.

But don’t stress — while it’s massive, everything is well signposted in both French and English. Whether you’re looking for the train station, taxi stand, or bus stop, you’ll find clear directions at every turn.

Once you know what to expect, getting from CDG to the city center is actually quite straightforward

The CDG Airport and its 3 Terminals

Charles de Gaulle Airport is made up of three main terminals — Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3 (Roissypôle).

Terminal 2 is by far the largest, divided into seven sub-terminals (2A–2G). Both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 have their own train stations with direct connections to central Paris, making transfers into the city easy.

A free automated shuttle train, the CDGVAL, connects all three terminals (and the parking areas), running every few minutes. Within Terminal 2, you can also take the N1 or N2 shuttle buses between sub-terminals — or simply walk, depending on your arrival point and luggage.

How to get from the Airport to Paris?

Getting from Charles de Gaulle Airport to central Paris is straightforward once you know your options. You can choose between trains, buses, taxis, or private transfers — each with its own perks depending on your budget, luggage, and arrival time.

Pro Tip: If you have an early morning flight, it’s worth spending your last night at a hotel near Charles de Gaulle Airport. Morning transportation can be tricky — trains don’t start until around 5 a.m., and the Metro a bit later.

Add luggage and rush-hour crowds, and it quickly becomes stressful. Staying near the airport means peace of mind (and a bit more sleep!).

If you are unsure, if this is the best option for you, this article helps: Private Airport Transfers in Paris: Convenience or Overkill?

My Personal Experience Welcome Pickups:

In April 2024, after an overnight flight from New York to Paris, I booked a driver through Welcome Pickups — and it was honestly the smoothest arrival I’ve ever had.

About a week before our trip, I received the driver’s details via the Welcome Pickups app. Communication was excellent: he tracked our flight, adjusted for a delay, and was waiting right at the arrivals gate. After a sleepless night, that stress-free pickup was priceless.

It cost just about €10 more than a regular taxi to Rive Gauche — absolutely worth it for the convenience.

I can’t comment on his English level since we spoke French, but everything is pre-arranged in the app, so language really isn’t an issue.

If you’re traveling on a budget to Paris, the RER B train is hands down the best way to get from Charles de Gaulle Airport to the city center. It’s not the most luxurious option, but it’s fast, reliable, and the cheapest way to reach central Paris.

The RER (Réseau Express Régional) is a suburban train that connects Paris with the surrounding towns — and it links directly to the city’s Metro network once you arrive.

From CDG, the RER B line takes you straight to major stations like Gare du Nord, Châtelet–Les Halles, and Saint-Michel Notre-Dame in about 30–40 minutes.

→ But before hopping on board, here’s something important to know: Charles de Gaulle has two train stations, and knowing which one to head to will save you time and confusion!

epending on which terminal you land at, getting to the RER B train station works a little differently. But don’t worry — it’s all clearly signposted, and you’ll be on your way to Paris in no time.

Taking the train is the cheapest and for many the best way to get from CDG to Paris

→ Arriving at Terminal 1

After customs and baggage claim, follow the blue signs for “CDGVAL Airport Shuttle.”
Hop on this free sky train and get off at Terminal 3/Roissypôle, where one of the airport’s two train stations is located. From there, you can catch the RER B train to Paris.

→ Arriving at Terminal 2

Once you’ve collected your luggage, look for blue signs pointing to “Gare SNCF / Railway Station” or “Paris par train / Paris by train.”
These will lead you straight to the train platforms located right inside Terminal 2 — no shuttle needed.

→ Arriving at Terminal 3

If you’re flying into Terminal 3, you’re already close! The Terminal 3/Roissypôle train station is just a short 5-minute walk away. Simply follow the blue “Paris par train” signs.

The CDGVAL Airport Shuttle

The CDGVAL Skytrain connects all three terminals of Charles de Gaulle Airport, as well as the parking areas and both train stations that serve the airport.

It runs daily from 4:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., with a train every four minutes, making it the quickest and easiest way to move between terminals.

If you arrive outside these hours, a night shuttle bus operates the same route, ensuring you can always get where you need to go — even in the middle of the night.

CHECKLIST for your Paris Trip

Where to Buy Tickets for the Train to Paris

When traveling from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Paris, you’ll need to buy a ticket for the RER B train. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket counter or from one of the automated vending machines located near the station entrance.

💡 Good to know: The ticket machines can be set to multiple languages, making it easy even if your French is a bit rusty.

Your RER ticket is valid for two hours, allowing you to continue your journey on the Metro or another RER line without buying a new ticket — as long as you don’t exit the station.

Once you have your ticket, insert it into the validation machine at the turnstile to access the platform. This step is essential, even if the gates are already open. Skipping validation can lead to a fine if there’s a ticket inspection.

Finding the right train is simple — there’s typically only one RER B service from the airport to Paris, so you can just follow the signs (or the crowd).

💡 Pro Tip:
If you’re using the Île-de-France Mobilités or RATP app, you can also buy your ticket digitally and validate your ride directly with your phone. Just note that purchases usually only work once you’re connected in France, not before your flight.

#3 Shuttle Bus from CDG to the City Center

⚠️ IMPORTANT The RoissyBus will be retired as of 1 March 2026.

Another ground transportation option to get from the airport to Paris is by bus — a good choice if you prefer a direct route without train transfers or stairs.

As of 2025, the Roissybus is the only official airport bus connecting Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) directly to central Paris.

Roissybus to Paris

The Roissybus stops at all three terminals of the airport, making it easy to catch no matter where you arrive.

It’s a direct route with no stops in between, and it drops you off near Galeries Lafayette and Opéra Garnier.

  • Destination: Opéra (right in the heart of Paris)
  • Journey time: 60–75 minutes, depending on traffic
  • Frequency: Every 15–20 minutes
  • Operating hours: 6:00 a.m. – 12:30 a.m.
  • Price: €13 (one way)

💡 Tip: If you’re staying elsewhere in Paris, you can easily connect from Opéra to the Metro (lines 3, 7, or 8) or to several bus routes serving the rest of the city.

Where to Buy Tickets for the Roissybus?

You can purchase your Roissybus ticket in several easy ways:

  • Directly from the driver when boarding the bus (cash or card accepted)
  • At airport bus stops and ticket vending machines located near the RER and Metro stations
  • Through the Île-de-France Mobilités or RATP app— perfect if you prefer to go paperless

💡 Tip: If you buy your ticket through the app, you can validate it directly on your phone when boarding.

#4 Take a Taxi from Charles de Gaulle to Paris

Taking a taxi from Charles de Gaulle to Paris is a convenient and reliable option — especially if your flight arrives very early in the morning or late at night, when public transportation is limited.

Do keep in mind that traffic in Paris can be unpredictable. Depending on the time of day, the ride from CDG to central Paris can take as little as 30 minutes (on a quiet Sunday morning) or up to two hours during rush hour.

The price for taxis from CDG into Paris are fixed:

  • To Rive Droite (Right Bank – north of the Seine): €56
  • To Rive Gauche (Left Bank – south of the Seine): €65

These are official flat rates — so no surprises at the end of your trip.

How to Find a Taxi Without Getting Scammed

Skip the stress reserve your Welcome Pickups ride now

Once you leave the security zone in the arrivals hall, you’ll likely be approached by people offering “taxi” rides. Avoid them at all costs — these are unlicensed drivers, and scams are common.

Instead, follow the official “Taxi” signs to the designated taxi stand. Official Paris taxis never solicit passengers inside the terminal — they wait at the official queue.

The authorized taxi companies include Alpha Taxi, Les Taxis Bleus, G7, and Horizon G7. You can identify them by the roof light marked “Taxi Parisien.”

How to pay for Taxis in Paris?

Paris taxis are legally required to accept credit cards, and most do. However, there’s one little “soft scam” that still happens from time to time: a driver might confirm that they take cards — only to claim at the end of the ride that their machine has suddenly stopped working.

It’s usually not really malicious, just inconvenient and a bit awkward when you don’t have cash on hand. To avoid stress (and standing outside your hotel rummaging for an ATM), it’s always smart to carry a small amount of euros just in case

If you prefer total peace of mind, prebook a transfer where payment is handled in advance

Where is the Taxi stand?

  • Terminal 1: exit 24 on the arrivals level
  • Terminal 2A: exit 6
  • Terminal 2C: exit 14
  • Terminal 2D: exit 7
  • Terminal 2E: gate 10, arrivals level
  • Terminal 2F: gate 11, arrivals level
  • Terminal 2G: blue gate
  • Terminal 3: at the exit of the arrival hall

#5 Take an Uber from CDG to Paris

Note: there is no designated Uber pick-up zone at the airport in Paris

If you’re an Uber user, you’ll be happy to know that your Uber app works perfectly fine in Paris. Depending on the time of day, it can even be cheaper than taking a regular taxi — but it’s always best to check the fare estimate before you decide.

Because In Paris, Uber isn’t the only ride-hailing service — Bolt and G7 offer similar apps and prices.

overview Uber, Bolt and G7
Prices can vary, compare the different apps

However, note that Charles de Gaulle Airport doesn’t have a designated Uber pickup zone. You’ll need to communicate directly with your driver through the app or have to wait for pick-up instructions from your driver if your location isn’t reachable for him.

When taking an Uber or similar from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Paris, travel time varies greatly depending on traffic.

During rush hour, it can take up to two hours, while early mornings or Sundays often mean a smooth 30–40-minute ride.
